We simply don't have any real mechanics for epic tier threats, which is what the likes of Cthulhu and Shub-Niggurath would be, so even beyond wanting to avoid arguments about whether or not such foes should be opposable, there's just no crunch to reverse-engineer them for.ģ: Tone down the xenophobia. The DMG contains systems for running Sanity, so it'll be easier for DMs to assign Sanity costs/whatever to these creatures later, but I myself don't particularly want to mess with it.Ģ: No Great Old Ones or Outer Gods stats. Would anyone be interested in following such a project? I'm going to need the opinions of others to figure out traits, balance, and all that good stuff.ġ: I'll be sticking with Lovecraft Lite. Since I'm interested in expanding my skills as a homebrewer, I was thinking of trying my hand at following in PF's footsteps and creating 5e crunch for various Mythosian monsters and artefacts and perhaps even spells. mechanically, I like 5th edition a lot more than I like Pathfinder. Something I'm sure they're kicking themselves over, since Pathfinder is shamelessly using all manner of Lovecraftian goodies in their Bestiaries and Adventure Paths, with Strange Aeons in particular going in directions WoTC has never had the guts to do. we all know that D&D has flirted with statting up various Lovecraftian entities in the past, before WoTC ultimately decided that paying royalties to the Lovecraft estate was too expensive. Something inspired by my other thread on D&D and Lovecraft.
